All of your frequently asked questions answered by the Camp Cooper Directors - Donna & Hiran. If you dont find the answer to your question, please call us on +44 (0) 3333 44 0077. We are always happy to hear from our camper families.
Where is Camp Cooper located?
Camp Cooper is located in Crieff, Scotland. Crieff is a 1-hour drive from Glasgow & Edinburgh.
How many campers attend Camp Cooper?
At any one time, Camp Cooper has approximately 100 campers originating from the UK and around the globe. We limit the number of campers to 100 to create a community where all campers and staff know each other.
Do you limit the amount of campers from one nationality?
Yes! We limit any nationality (except the UK) to 20%. The reason for this is to create a fully English speaking programme and to create a multi-cultural community with campers from a range of nationalities.
Can I request no other campers from my child's nationality in their accommodation / cabin group?
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that there will be no other campers from your camper's nationality in their cabin group / accommodation. We will do our very best to accommodate your request and we are fortunate to have campers from over 30 nationalities attend Camp Cooper. As we split campers into cabin groups on an age basis, sometimes campers from the same nationality are placed together.
How many English speaking campers are there?
Camp Cooper is an English speaking Camp. All of our staff are fluent English speakers and all of our activities are run in English. We have a mix of native English speaking campers, international campers with an excellent grasp of the English language and international campers who are at the early stages of learning English. The structure of Camp Cooper allows campers of all levels of English to grow from their experience interacting with friends from around the world. There are approximately 30% native English speaking campers at Camp Cooper - this can be higher or lower based on the week.
Do you offer airport pickups / drop-offs?
Yes! We offer a free airport pickup and drop-off service, to and from Edinburgh Airport. After you register, you will fill in a transport form where you will enter all of your camper's transport information. Our staff will be waiting outside of the arrival gate, wearing our bright Camp Cooper t-shirts and next to our Camp Cooper banner.
For airport drop-offs, campers will be accompanied by our Camp Staff to the airport for check-in.
If your camper is travelling as an unaccompanied minor, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details on the person who will sign for them at the airport.
What are the ages of the campers at Camp Cooper?
Children aged 7-17 attend Camp Cooper. We split campers into cabin groups by age which means that campers will spend the majority of their time with 8-10 children the same age as them.
As Camp Cooper is a small community of 100 campers and 25 staff, friendships cross age groups, genders and nationalities. We actively encourage everyone to feel part of the whole camp community.
How long should I come to Camp for?
Camp Cooper runs two week sessions and campers can attend for 2,4 or 6 weeks. The normal duration of stay is between 2-4 weeks. Ultimately you will know your child best and the best duration of stay is dependent upon how often they have been away from home, how old they are and how independent they are.
How do I know my camper will be safe?
Our number one priority is camper safety and wellbeing. Campers are well supervised at all times throughout the day. All staff have been through a rigorous selection process, a thorough background check and have completed our in-depth staff training programme. Only the most experienced, passionate, caring and dedicated staff are accepted to work at Camp Cooper. Our staff to camper ratio is 1:4. In 2014 & 2015, Camp Cooper was fully accredited by the British Accreditation Council, who thoroughly inspected our programme and procedures.
Do you accept friend requests for cabin groups?
Yes, if your camper would like to request to share cabin groups with a friend (maximum of 2 requests) please let us know on the registration form. The friend request should be of the same gender and the same age. While we usually honour these requests, sometimes extenuating circumstance will necessitate other living arrangements. Camp Cooper encourages new friendships, and the Camp community is small enough that friends who come to Camp already knowing each other can spend ample time together even if not placed in the same cabin group.
What is the food like? Do you accommodate campers with food allergies?
Camp Cooper meals are served in our beautiful dining hall with a healthy and delicious "home cooked" style food. Each meal has a variety of hot and cold options as well as a vegetarian dish and constant supply of fresh fruit and snacks. Our chefs are experienced in cooking for a wide variety of dietary restrictions and food allergies. If your camper has a dietary restriction or food allergy please call us and we will work closely with you to provide suitable alternatives and accommodations.
How will I communicate with my child during the summer?
To help campers develop strong life skills such as independence, and fully immerse themselves in the Camp community, we encourage parents, family members and friends to communicate through the old-fashioned art of letter writing. Campers are allowed to use their mobile phones from 11.45am - 12.30pm (UK time - GMT). The rest of the time, phones are kept in the Camp office. Our Camp office is available by phone or email 24 hours a day throughout the summer. If you would like an update on your camper or would like a message to be passed, please do not hesitate to contact us.
